Rachel Salls

     Rachel Salls was born circa 1795; For years, I struggled to place Rachel into a family. I had info on her two marriages, five children, her death and Last Will. But I couldn't identify her parents. Finally, I came across a Marriage Contract between herself and Joseph Goslin before notary George D. Arnoldi. The next to last page showed it was witnessed by Jerusha Howard "her sister". Now I had a new daughter to add to Abraham Salls.² She was the daughter of Abraham Salls and Phebe Filer. Rachel Salls married Arthur Smith before 1813 at Quebec.¹ Rachel Salls married Joseph Goslin on 16 October 1834 at St James Methodist, Montreal, Montreal Co, Quebec; On the 14th of Oct, the two entered into a marriage contract.³ Rachel Salls died on 12 July 1840 at Montreal, Montreal Co, Quebec; Her death and burial record say she was aged 45 years.⁴ She was buried on 14 July 1840 at Montreal, Montreal Co, Quebec.⁴
     She left a will on 22 May 1840 at Montreal, Montreal Co, Quebec; Rachel left all her real as well as personal property to her "dear daughter Jane Smith" issue of her marriage to Arthur Smith, cooper, of Montreal. She also referenced her contract of marriage with Joseph Goslin passed before the late George Arnoldi. She appointed her daughter Jane Smith and son Daniel Smith as executors. This was passed before Isaac Jones Gibb, notary of Montreal.⁵
