George Lewis Salls was born on 1 July 1817 at Christie's Manor, Missisquoi Co, Quebec. He was the son of J. Seymour Salls and Catherine Soule. George Lewis Salls was baptized on 5 October 1817 at Caldwell's Manor & Christie's Manor Anglican Church, Caldwell's Manor, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.1 He married Rachel Scott before 1842.2 George Lewis Salls married Mary Burton Mott, daughter of Benjamin Mott and Almira Nichols, circa 1849.
It appears that George L. Salls changed his name after coming to the states, since most records list him as Sarles and Searles after that time. As of 1850, George Lewis Salls was also known as Lewis Sarles. As of 1870, George Lewis Salls was also known as Lewis Searls.
