Thomas Edward Dean

     Thomas Edward Dean was born on 3 May 1883 at Leeds, Yorkshire, England; His parents' residence was 27 Hill Side Street at the time of his birth.^1,2 He was the son of James Dean and Frances Shores Smith. Thomas Edward Dean was baptized on 25 November 1883 at St Peter's Church, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.¹ He married Mildred Eva Scott, daughter of William Edward Scott and Margaret Lavinia Salls, on 23 November 1910 at Clinton, Worcester Co, Massachusetts; They were married by the Rev. W.W. Jordan. The article mentions he was of Passaic, and she was of Worcester.³ Thomas Edward Dean died on 13 August 1960 at Marlborough, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts, at age 77. He was buried at Clinton, Worcester Co, Massachusetts; Section 51.⁴
     He immigrated on 9 May 1887 to Massachusetts with his family on the ship "Marathon", arriving at Boston. Thomas Edward Dean was working in Passaic, New Jersey when he married Mildred Scott. He was a machinist all his life and, at one time, worked for his uncle for the John M. Dean Company in Putnam, Connecticut. He lived in July 1913 at Clifton, New Jersey. On 12 September 1918,      Ted was working for Middlebrook Wool Combing Company on 310 Border, Boston, and shows Millie and family at 132 Vernal Street, Everett. At this time, his hair was black, eyes blue and of medium height and weight.⁵ Evidently, Ted played softball with a huge group, but there is no way to date the photo -- it was so interesting though, I have placed it here. He and Mildred Eva Scott appeared on the census of 1 January 1920 at 132 Vernal Street, Everett, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; Thomas E. Dean, 36, b. England, Mildred, 30, b. MA, Muriel F., 6, b. NJ and Howard T., 4 and 9 mos, b. MA. Thomas was listed as a comb maker. Mildred listed her parents as having been born in Vermont and New York.⁶ Thomas Edward Dean appeared on the census of 9 April 1930 at 73 Larchwood Road, Methuen, Essex Co, Massachusetts; Thomas E. DEam, 46, Mildred E., 41, Muriel F., 17, Howard T., 15 and Shirley M., 9. Thomas was a machine comber in a worsted mill. The record shows his year of immigration as 1886. They owned a radio and rented the home they were in.⁷ He appeared on the census of 13 April 1940 at 102 Lincoln Street, Hudson, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; Thomas E. Dean, 56, Mildred E., 51, Howard T., 25 and Shirley M., 19.⁸ On 26 April 1942,
     At the time of the WW II draft, Thomas was living at 99 Cottage Street, Hudson. He was 58. Phone number back in the day was 856-M. He was working at Hudson Worsted on 43 Broad Street in Hudson. At that time he was 5' 5" and weighed 145 lbs, with gray hair and blue eyes.⁹
