     John Foster was born circa 1826 at England.1,2 He was the son of John Foster and Mary (?)1 John Foster married Hester Ann Salls, daughter of Filer Salls and Nancy Bush, on 2 January 1850 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.3 John Foster died on 4 November 1885 at Ypsilanti, Washtenaw Co, Michigan.1,4
     He appeared on the census of 1880 at Ypsilanti, Washtenaw Co, Michigan; John Foster, 52, b. England, Hester, 46, b. Canada, Charles 27, b. Canada, wife Bettie, 27, b. MI, their dau Agnes, 4, b. Michigan, Ella, 19, b. Canada, and Willie, 13, b. VT. John Foster was a blacksmith.2
