Charlotte Buchanan

     Charlotte Buchanan was born circa 1826 at Nova Scotia; The 1871 census indicates she was born ca 1829, but since her mother died in 1826, I assume Charlotte was born then.¹ She was the daughter of James B. Buchanan and Margaret Kerr. Charlotte Buchanan married John B. Hamilton, son of James Hamilton, on 16 April 1851 at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.² Charlotte Buchanan died on 7 May 1903 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; I have questions about the this but am using this record for her death. Her death record says she was born County Fermanagh, Ireland, and her burial says both parents born Ireland. But, the Charlotte at Peters Street was a widow of John, and John newspaper notice indicates a child was left in the short window of about a year before he died. The pieces fit except for the attributed nationality.^3,4
     The marriage record at St Andrew's Church states that Mr. Hamilton was of New York City, NY and Charlotte was of Saint John. The New Brunswick Courier reported the marriage on 19 April 1851, and stated it had taken place at the home of James Kirk. Charlotte may have been living with her aunt Catherine Kerr Kirk and her husband James at the time of her marriage.^2,4
