James Barnes was born circa 1872 at Vermont.1 He was the son of Oscar Barnes and Samantha Elizabeth Scott. James Barnes died on 14 February 1949 at Chateaugay, Franklin Co, New York; His death was attributed to a heart attack. James had been employed for many years at the Sheffield Milk Plant in Chateaugay.
He was survived by four daughters, Mrs. Grace Starks of CHateaugay, Mrs. Stella Dibble of Potsdam; Mrs. Gladys Hayden of New York City; and Mrs Cora Rust of Malone. Four sons Earl, Carl, Homer and Ernest, all of Chateaugay. His wife had predeceased him by three years.2
