     Virginia Lee Waugh was born on 4 May 1924 at Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina. She was the daughter of George Francis Waugh and Grace Lee Sharpe. Virginia Lee Waugh married Charles Verne Asay, son of Charles Willard Asay and Lillian Pfeister. Virginia Lee Waugh married Vance Willard Kennerly, son of DeKalb Kennerly and Bessie (?), on 5 June 1976. Virginia Lee Waugh died on 9 September 2014 at Santa Maria, Santa Barbara Co, California, at age 90; Virginia Waugh Asay, Died Tuesday September 9, 2014 at Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria Born on May 4, 1924 in Statesville, NC to Grace Lee Waugh and George Francis Waugh Virginia was raised in Statesville, NC and attended Statesville Public Schools. While still in High School she started working for Bell South as a telephone operator and remained with Bell South for the remainder of her 45 year career, rising through the management ranks. Throughout her life Virginia was a devout Christian and proud member of the Southern Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband Charles V. Asay of Santa Maria, CA, David F. Waugh and Randolph S. Waugh, both of Orlando, FL, and Cheryl E. Oakes, of Charlotte, NC, as well as many great and grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by both her mother and father as well as her sister Marjorie Waugh-Cruse of Concord, NC, and former husband Vance Kennerly of Charlotte, NC. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 12 noon at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary Chapel with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm.1 She was buried on 13 September 2014 at Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina.1
     She appeared on the census of 8 April 1930 in the household of Grace Lee Sharpe at Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina; Grace Waugh, 32, was head of the household, and with her were her two daughters, Margie, 8 and Virginia, 6, as well as her mother, Mary Sharpe, 47. There is no sign of George Waugh. Mary Puella was enumerated as having married at age 18, and was widowed. Also listed were Grace's two sisters, Ollie, 25 and Eddison, 15.2 Virginia Lee Waugh witnessed the marriage of Columbus Nathaniel McLendon and Mary Edison Sharpe on 26 December 1951 at Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina; They were married by Wendell G. Davis, at his home at 507 Western Avenue. She listed her parents as Will and Mary Sharpe.3,4
