Horatio Nelson Partlow

     Horatio Nelson Partlow was born on 6 May 1837 at Brushton, St Lawrence Co, New York.^1,2 He was the son of David Partlow and Maria M. Tryon. Horatio Nelson Partlow married Sarah M. Partlow, daughter of Samuel Partlow and Olive Alexander.³ Horatio Nelson Partlow died on 19 May 1922 at Salisbury, Addison Co, Vermont, at age 85; Horatio had been a former resident of St Lawrence County, New York, having moved there from Lowell, Massachusetts, but he and his wife had gone to live with their son in Salisbury, Vermont about three years before his death. His death certificate shows his father as David and mother as Maria Saht. Beginning to think that the informant knew Maria had been a Salls and gave it is as closely as possible, even though it was from her first marriage.

"Horatio N. Partlow died at his home at 2 o'clock Friday moring. He was born in Bushton [sic], NY, 85 years ago and a veteran of the Civil war. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Charles H. nd Albert N. of Salisbury. The funeral will be held at the house Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Gullick will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot in Pine Hill cemetery in this town."^1,4,5 He was buried at Pine Hill Cemetery, Brandon, Rutland Co, Vermont.⁶
     He appeared on the census of 21 August 1850 at Bombay, Franklin Co, New York; Horatio Partlow, aged 15, was living with his uncle and aunt, Daniel B. and Susan Tryon Smith and their family.⁷ He appeared on the census of 8 June 1860 at La Crosse, La Crosse Co, Wisconsin; Horatio N., 23, and his wife Sarah M., 21, both born Canada.⁸ Horatio served as a Private with the 2 Vermont Artillery, Regiment 2, out of Vermont. He was captured and held at Andersonville 3 Aug 1863 and survived. He been captured at Jackson, Louisiana.⁹ He appeared on the census of 10 June 1880 at Lowell, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; Horatio Partloe, 42, Sarah M., 40, Albert, 19, Charles H., 17. Sarah and sons were born in VT. Sarah's father was b. Canada, mother b. NH. Horatio was b. NY, as well as parents.¹⁰ He and Sarah M. Partlow appeared on the census of 5 June 1900 at Lawrence, St Lawrence Co, New York; Horatio Partlow, 65, b. NY, parents both b. Canada, Sarah M., 60, b. VT, father b. Canada, mother b. NH. The census also lists Sarah was the mother of two children, both still living.¹¹ Horatio Nelson Partlow appeared on the census of 16 April 1910 at Lawrence, St Lawrence Co, New York; Horatio N. Partlow, 72 and wife Sarah M., 70.¹² He appeared on the census of 7 January 1920 at Lawrence, St Lawrence Co, New York; Horatio N. Partlow, 82, and wife Sarah M., 79.¹³
