     Robert Smith was born circa 1626.1 He married Mary French, daughter of Thomas French and Mary (?), on 26 March 1656 at Boxford, Essex Co, Massachusetts.1 Robert Smith died on 30 August 1693 at Essex Co, Massachusetts.1,2 His estate was probated on 26 September 1693 at Essex Co, Massachusetts.
     Both Robert Smith and John Ramsdell had gotten up a petition with Edmund Bridges, a blacksmith, protesting the reassignment of certain families from Topsfield to Rowley for tax purposes. So, they were well acquainted long before Mary Ramsdell and Ephraim Smith married.3 He left a will on 7 August 1693.1
