John Spencer was born circa 1505 at England.1 He was the son of John Spencer and Ann Gerrard. John Spencer married Anne Merrill circa 1530 at Bedfordshire, England.1 John Spencer died in June 1588 at Bedfordshire, England.1 He was buried on 9 June 1588 at Edworth, Bedford, England.1
John Spencer rented land in the parish of Clopham in 1536. It is likely that after the lease expired, he then moved to Edworth, also n Bedfordshire. He occupied a farm of "about 600 acres there as lessee of Robert Parrys of Ellington, who was then lord of the manor and was married to John's kinswoman Elizabeth Spencer, daughter of Thomas Spencer of Cople."1
