     John Hickey was born circa 1858 at Northampton, Carleton Co, New Brunswick.1 He was the son of Lemuel Hickey and Elizabeth (?) John Hickey married Caroline L. Daley, daughter of Joseph Daley and Mary Hepburn, on 18 May 1884 at Houlton, Aroostook Co, Maine; John Hickey was of Grafton [Carleton Co] and Caroline was of Portland [Saint John Co]. He was of Woodstock, Maine and she was of Saint John, New Brunswick.2,3 John Hickey died on 21 June 1931 at Benton, York Co, New Brunswick.4 He was buried at Houlton, Aroostook Co, Maine.
     According to a great grandson, John Hickey was very a drunkard and bum, which was why Caroline was buried in a pauper's grave. The children were all split up after Caroline's death - older ones on their own, and younger ones amongst other family and friends. Harold, was set to the State School for Boys.
"John Hickey was so despised by his children that they practically had to be bribed to attend his funeral". He was Benton.4 He appeared on the census of 1920 at Houlton, Aroostook Co, Maine; John Hickey, widower, 62, was living with others at a boarding house listed as Pauper Farm.5
