John Alexander married Jean Stewart. John Alexander was born circa 1580 at Tarbert, Kentyre, Argyll, Scotland; John Alexander, original settler of County Donegal, Ireland was believed to have been descended from the House of MacAlexander in Tarbert Kintyre, Scotland.
He is thought to be son of Archibald (Laird of Tarbert in 1631) and is found in 1613 to be a tenant on the land of James Cunningham. His portion of land was named "Eredy". It has been suggested that he changed his name to Alexander so as to recieve land in Ulster which was only apportioned to Lowland Scots as well as English subjects. Most material states that this John of Eredy came from the Kintyre Peninsula rather than Menstrie, Stirling, Scotland. Then perhaps this John Alexander came from NOrth Ayrshire as did his landlord, James Cunningham. He died after 1662 at Eredy, Raphoe, Donegal, Ireland.
