Thomas Marter married Elizabeth Ann Trafton, daughter of Thomas Trafton Esquire, JP and Elizabeth Bennett Scott, on 29 July 1839 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Elizabeth was mentioned as th eolnly daughter of Thomas Trafton.1 Thomas Marter died on 18 August 1881 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; "Thos. MARTER, well known former chief engineer of St. John Fire Dept. died in this city yesterday in his 64th year. The deceased had been a life long fireman and when the dept. was remodelled some 18 years ago. Mr. Marter was placed at its head. He held the office until the autumn of 1877 when ex-Mayor Smith was appointed and Mr. Marter became store keeper. He had lately been on the Board of Assessors."2 He was buried on 20 August 1881 at Trinity Church, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.
