     Edward Carter was born circa 1673 at Nanticoke, Isle of Wight County, Virginia; In 1712 he was tithable on himself and a slave in the tax list for Beaufort Precinct, North Carolina.1 He was the son of Edward Carter. Edward Carter married Elizabeth Gray in 1698. Edward Carter died circa April 1736 at New Hanover Co, North Carolina.2 His estate was probated on 10 May 1736 at New Hanover County, Virginia.2
     He left a will on 23 March 1735/36 at New Hanover County, Virginia; He did not name his children, but left land on the east side of the Northeast Branch of Cape Fear River to his grandchildren: William, Edward, Solomon and Thomasin. Edward set his slave, Peter, free for sixty years.2
