James
Covey was born circa 1781 at
Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont; He was baptised at age 19. He was the son of
Samuel Covey and
(Mary?) Yearns/Hearns. James Covey was baptized on 5 May 1800 at
St Gabriel's Presbyterian Church, Montreal, Montreal Co, Quebec. He married
Elizabeth (?) James Covey married
Mary Salway on 4 November 1823 at
Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.

Catherine Scriver. James Covey died after 13 October 1850; He was living at the time of Catherine Scriver's death. In "consequence of his old age and infirmities, and for the advancement of his family ", James Sr. gave James Jr., and Henry, still a minor, the centre part of Lot fifty-one in the first range of Hemmingford containing about 50 acres of land. It was bounded by the King's Highway to the north, the Province line to the south, and John Longeway to the east and Elisa Covey to the west. This also included two cows, three sheep, a harrow and all moveables, household furniture and effects.
2 Alburgh town records show that James Covey was listed as a Freeman in 1801.
