John Edward Carter

     John Edward Carter was born on 16 January 1852 at Lenoir Co, North Carolina.^1,2 He was the son of McClendall 'Mack' Carter and Sarah Jernigan Carter. John Edward Carter married Vincey Eleanor Carter, daughter of Zenos Carter and Hepsey Cavanaugh, in 1873.² John Edward Carter died on 9 November 1928 at Raleigh, Wake Co, North Carolina, at age 76.¹ He was buried on 11 November 1928 at Mount Olive, Duplin and Wayne Cos, North Carolina.¹
     He and Vincey Eleanor Carter appeared on the census of 1 June 1900 at Smith's Twp, Duplin Co, North Carolina; John E. Carter, 48, Vincey E., 42, Hepsy D., 20, Minnie L., 17, Sauty P., 16, Hittie L., 12, Adrian C., 9, Edward N., 7 and Almyria, 3. They had been married 27 years, and Vincey had 11 children, with 9 still living.²
