Matthew Gilbert was born circa 1599 at England.1 He married Jane Baker on 4 June 1639.1 Matthew Gilbert died in 1679 at New Haven, New Haven Co, Connecticut.1
He came aboard the ship Hector, which arrived at Boston on 26 Jun 1637 and became a leader in New Haven colony.1 He left a will on 14 January 1679; Mentioned are his wife, sons Matthew and Samuel, daughters Mary Auger and Hannah Parker, grandson John Guilbert, and cousin Sarah How. His wife was made executor. Witnesses: Wm. Peck and Thos. Munson. His inventory was taken July 6, valued at £502: 13: 11.
