Mary Vincent was born circa 1634. She was the daughter of John Vincent. Mary Vincent married Benjamin Hammond on 8 November 1648 at Yarmouth, Barnstable Co, Massachusetts.1 Mary Vincent died on 5 August 1705 at Rochester, Plymouth Co, Massachusetts.
Trial documents name Mary Vincent Hammond, along with Sarah White Norman as the only known record of sex between female English colonists during the 17th century. At Plymouth General Court on 6 Mar 1648, they were prosecuted for "lewd behavior with each other upon a bed."

It is noted in several records that Mary was younger than Sarah, probably 15, while Sarah was about a decade senior. Mary was only admonished, perhaps, due to her age. At that time, the age of discretion was 16. Sarah stood trial. During this time, her husband, Hugh Norman, abandoned her and returned to England.

This may be the only conviction for lesbianism in American history.2
