Dennis was accused of the murder of Aaron Baxley of Anson County, NC in 1782. The committee assigned to investigate found him innocent and he was pardoned by Gov. Martin. At the beginning of the Revolutionary War, it was said Dennis was a Loyalist, which happened frequently with older folks.2
