Matilda Jane Patterson was born on 7 May 1826 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec. She was the daughter of Frederick Patterson and Nancy May. Matilda Jane Patterson married Timothy Thompson, son of Josiah Thompson, on 26 October 1848 at Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont; Timothy was of Burlington, Vermont and Matilda was of Clarenceville.2 Matilda Jane Patterson died on 21 January 1908 at Shaftsbury, Bennington Co, Vermont, at age 81; Her death was registered as Matilda J. P. Thompson, aged 82, daughter of Frederick Pattison and Lucinda May.3
It is not known if George Owen Conley/Connolly and Matilda were married, but likely not. When both children married, they were going by Patterson, not Connolly.4 She and Timothy Thompson appeared on the census of 1850 at Williston, Chittenden Co, Vermont; Timothy Thompson, 47, Jane M., 24, and Timothy, 1. They were residing with Josiah Thompson, 75 b. NH, and his wife Arniah/Amiah, 71, b. MA, presumably Timothy's parents.5 Matilda Jane Patterson appeared on the census of 2 June 1860 at Williston, Chittenden Co, Vermont; Jane Thompson, 47, Timothy, 12 and Fred, 8, all born Canada.6 She appeared on the census of 10 June 1900 at Shaftsbury, Bennington Co, Vermont; In 1900, Matilda was living in Shaftsbury with her grandson Herbert Thompson and his family. She was 74 and listed as Matilda Provansill. She was a widow, had one child, none living and had come to the States in 1860.7
