Ruth Pinion was born in 1640 at Burwash, Sussex Co, England. She was the daughter of Nicholas Pinion and Elizabeth Starre. Ruth Pinion was baptized on 24 May 1640 at Burwash, Sussex Co, England. She married James Moore on 28 December 1657 at Lynn, Essex Co, Massachusetts. Ruth Pinion married Peter Briggs before 1666.1 Ruth Pinion died in June 1668 at New Haven, New Haven Co, Connecticut; She was hanged for adultery and infanticide.2
Ruth was charged in December 1665 with "sundry Crimes" involving Benjamin Graves, with whom she had relations before and after her marriage to Peter Briggs. Her marriage was already deemed a failure. Ruth also faced additional chrages regarding her marriage including "wilfully departing" against his wishes. She was also ordered to leave New Haven.
She did not stay gone for long as she was under suspicion as having had a child and "made it away". Midwives suggested she had given birth on 15 February 1667/8. After denying it, she finally admitted she had taken savin to abort the child and had buried it below her sister Mary's graden by the swamp. She was questioned as to peternity and then faced a death penality for infanticide. She proceeded to confess about a series of sexual offenses committed in New Haven over the previous three years. She was later convicted of her crimes of infanticide and adultery and hanged about 1668.2
