Downer Wait was born on 8 July 1804 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co, Vermont. He was the son of Gardner Wait and Lucretia Fillmore. Downer Wait married Almira Hillard on 1 January 1828. Downer Wait died on 10 March 1884 at Brasher, St Lawrence Co, New York, at age 79.
