Joseph Dean

     Joseph Dean was born on 18 February 1777 at Leeds, Yorkshire, England; The family was of Briggate.^3,2 He was the son of Joseph Dean.² Joseph Dean was baptized on 19 March 1777 at St Peter's Church, Leeds, Yorkshire, England; While there were other baptisms close to this date, this Joseph Dean was a resident of Briggate.² He married Margaret Foyer? circa 1799. Joseph Dean died in December 1817 at age 40; Joseph was aged 42 years and of Quarry Hill. He married Margaret Heaton, daughter of William Heaton, on 7 July 1821 at Yorkshire; Both Margaret and Joseph were residents of Holbeck and 50 years old at the time of marriage. He was a tailor. It is likely that Malkins was Margaret's married name and she was a widow.
     If she is a widow, her first husband might have been Samuel Malkin, who died in Jan 1816, at the age of 45. He was buried At St Mary's in Hunslet.
     Of course, that would eliminate Joseph's death occurring in 1817. I am leaving as is, trying to work out which is correct.^4,5,6
     I am aware of conflicting info on death and marriage - I am trying to work it all out. We know his wife was Margaret, and descendants say he married Margaret Malkin. Problem is that that marriage didn't take place until 1821. If he died in 1817, this is not possible. Perhaps Joseph left his 1st wife to marry the widow Malkin. Who was the first Margaret? Using this as a family in process in my database. Since both dau Mary and son James names daughters Margaret Foyer, I am leaning towards Foyer as her last name.⁶ It appears that Joseph was in the service about 1803-1808. A Regimental Register, 53rd Foot Soldiers, 2nd Battalion lists Joseph Dean, 28, who was 5'4", with grey eyes and brown hair. He was born Leeds, and was a "taylor".⁷
