John Smith was born circa 1790. He married Mary Kitchen, daughter of Richard Kitchen and Elizabeth Binns, on 16 April 1811 at Saint Michael Spurriergate, York, Yorkshire, England; The marriage certificate indicates he was a Private and a guard with the R.F. Dragoon. They were both of that parish. Witness was a Jane Mackgill. Jane married in York in 1813 to a Dwier, who belonged to the same parish. He was also a member of the Dragoon Guard's 4th. Had hoped for a Kitchen or Smith connection, but no luck.1,2 John Smith died before 1841 at Walmgate, York, Yorkshire, England; John Smith was not living with his family in 1841, so it is suspected he had died by that time. It is virtually impossible to pinpoint when this John Smith died.3
