     Eli Shores was born on 4 January 1766 at Marsh Lane, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.2 He was the son of Richard Shores and Dorothy Eccles.1 Eli Shores was christened on 7 February 1766 at St Peter's, Leeds, Yorkshire, England; The baptism lists he was the son of Richard Shores, Sr.2 He married Elizabeth Pearson on 29 August 1790 at St Peter's, Leeds, Yorkshire, England; Witnesses were John Lockwood and Thos. Atkinson.3 Eli Shores died in September 1832 at Leeds, Yorkshire, England, at age 66.4 He was buried on 12 September 1832 at Leeds, Yorkshire, England; It is noted that Eli was a married man, and lived at Bank. He was 66 years old. The burial of his daughter Sarah Gath, shows her father was a tobacconist.5
     On 19 Apr 1804, Eli Shores and wife Elizabeth were committed to the West Riding House of Correction in Wakefield, West Yorks for stealing a quantity of tobacco. The registration indicates Eli was 38, and Elizabeth was 34. They were released in July of that year. Eli was said to be 5'6" with brown hair and gray eyes. Elizabeth was 4'11" also with brown hair and gray eyes.6
