Arnulf I of Flanders was born circa 890 at Flanders.1 He was the son of Baldwin II of Flanders and Princess Elfrida of England. Arnulf I of Flanders married Adela De Vermandois, daughter of Count Herbert II De Vermandois and Hildebrant, in 934.2 Arnulf I of Flanders died on 28 March 965 at Flanders, Belgium.3
Arnulf I was the third Count of Flanders, who ruled the County of Flanders, an area that is now northwestern Belgium and southwestern Holland.
In his southern expansion Arnulf inevitably had conflict with the Norman, who were trying to secures their northern frontier. This led to the 0943 murder of the Duke of Normandy, William Lonsword, at the hands of Arnulf's men.1
