James Hovey was born in 1674 at Brookfield, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of James Hovey and Priscilla Warner. James Hovey married Deborah Barlow, daughter of Edmund Barlow and Mary Pemberton, circa 1694 at Malden, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts.2 James Hovey died in 1760 at Mansfield, Tolland Co, Connecticut; He probably died in the Spring of 1760.2 His estate was probated on 6 May 1760 at Tolland Co, Connecticut; The inventory of the estate amounted to over £329, £53 of which was real estate, and the rest was personal.2
James Hovey was a weaver, and lived in Malden, Massachusetts until the summer of 1716 when he removed to Mansfield, Connecticut. He sold his interest in seven acres of land in Charlestown on Spot Pond brook for seven pounds on 10 May 1715. He conveyed his homestead of 15 acres and 5 1/2 acres of woodland in Malden for £220 8 Jun 1716. Several months later he purchased more than a total of 200 acres in Mansfield.1
