David S. Sweet

     David S. Sweet married Elizabeth B. Closson; "David and his wife, Elizabeth, had no children of their own. Because his brother, Haviland, died in the Civil War and his widow, Lucy (Elizabeth's sister), died soon after giving birth to their last child, David and Elizabeth filed for guardianship of their (Haviland and Lucy's) children. The US government agreed and paid until the youngest became an adult."¹ David S. Sweet was born in 1812 at Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont.² He was the son of James S. Sweet and Lorany Tryon. David S. Sweet died on 20 August 1880 at Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont.¹
