John Nelson Young was born on 14 December 1846 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.1 He was the son of John Young Jr. and Emerline Patterson. John Nelson Young was baptized on 4 April 1847 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.2 He married Emma Jeanette Vose on 4 July 1871 at Brown Co, Wisconsin.3,4 John Nelson Young died on 23 July 1938 at Fox Crossing, Winnebago Co, Wisconsin, at age 91; Menasha - an illness of six months proved fatal at 9:50 Saturday night to one of Menasha's oldest residents, John Nelson Young, 91. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Krablean, 323 Garfield avenue. Mr. Young had been bedridden for four weeks. He was born Dec. 14, 1846, at Clarenceville, province of Quebec, Canada, and was a resident of of Menasha for 26 years. Prior to that time he conducted a farm near West DePere.
Mr. Young was a staunch member of the Episcopal church. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Theresa Stowe of Appleton, Mrs. Emma Church of West DePere, Mrs. Henry Church of Mountain and Mrs. Krablean of this city; two sons, Herman of Neenah and Howard of this city; one brother, Marshall of Clarenceville; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Derrick of Clarenceville and Miss Inez Young of Princeton, Minn; 27 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Laemmerich funeral home and at 2:30 at the Sniderville Baptist church, the Rev. A. A. Chambers of St. Thomas' Episcopal church, Menasha, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at Sniderville. The body will be at the funeral home tonight to the time of services.5 He was buried at South Lawrence Cemetery, De Pere, Brown Co, Wisconsin.5
He appeared on the census of 23 August 1870 at Wrightstown, Brown Co, Wisconsin; Nelson Young was 23, working in a saw mill.6 As of 1880, John Nelson Young was also known as Nelson Young.3 He appeared on the census of 24 June 1880 at Baldwin Twp, Sherburne Co, Minnesota; Nelson Young, 33, Emma, 25, along with Theressa, 7, Emma, 4 and Lilian, 1.3 He appeared on the census of 4 June 1900 at Lawrence, Brown Co, Wisconsin; John N. Young, 53 (b. Dec 1846 Canada), and wife Emma J., 45, along with John S., 16, Hiram E., 11, and Anne C., 8.7 He appeared on the census of 5 January 1920 at Neenah, Winnebago Co, Wisconsin; John N. Young, 73, Emma, 64, and Howard?, adopted son, 13 (this entry very hard to read.)8 He appeared on the census of 4 April 1930 at Menasha, Winnebago Co, Wisconsin; John N. Young, 82, Emma J., 75, living with their daughter Anne Claire Krablian and her 2nd husband and their family.9
