He was born on 9 February 1780.1 He married Jane Hoose on 25 November 1797 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.1 John Colton married Sarah Crawford, daughter of Henry Crawford, on 1 July 1824 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.2 John Colton died on 21 November 1832 at Russelltown, Huntingdon Co, Quebec, at age 52.1
