     Joseph Leander Wood was born circa 1842 at Nova Scotia.2,1 He was the son of Nelson Wood and Sarah A. Wood.1 Joseph Leander Wood married Louisa W. Tripp, daughter of Nathan Tripp, on 1 June 1867 at Lowell, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; Joseph was 23 and Louise was 21.3 Joseph Leander Wood died in 1882 at Connecticut.1 He was buried at Pinesbridge Cemetery, Beacon Falls, New Haven Co, Connecticut.4
     On 2 Sep 1861 Joseph L. Wood mustered into service with the 1st Company Massachusetts Sharpshooters. He was 19 years old.
Joseph was promoted to Corporal. He was wounded September 17, 1862 at Antietam, Maryland and again on November 28, 1863 at Mine Run, Virginia. On 12 Sep 1864 Joseph ended military service with the 1st Massachusetts Sharpshooters by mustering out. He also served three months in Company D 6th Massachusetts Infantry. He was mustered out on September 12, 1864.5 He appeared on the census of 2 June 1870 at Lowell Ward 1, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; Joseph L. Wood, 26, b. Nova Scotia, Louisa, 24, b. Maine, and Chas M., 2. Mass.2
