Albert Irvine Covey

     Albert Irvine Covey was born on 19 November 1845 at Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont.^1,2 He was the son of Alfred Melville Covey and Jane Nokes Longeway. Albert Irvine Covey was baptized on 25 October 1847 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.¹ He married Isabella Cornan, daughter of John Cornan and Elizabeth Fraser, on 9 May 1872 at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Hogansburg, Bombay, Clinton Co, New York.³ Albert Irvine Covey died on 18 November 1921 at Lincoln, Lancaster Co, Nebraska, at age 75; Albert's obituary indicates he was b. in Alburgh, 19 Nov 1845, and died at the home of his dau, Mrs. K. W. Gillespie [of Lincoln, NE]. When 26, he moved to NY and married Isabelle Corning of Chateaugay. They had 10 children, with six, as well as his wife, having died earlier. In 1883, he moved to Malone [NY] where he lived 24 yrs before coming to Lincoln.
Remaining children: Irving H. of Bridgeport, CT; Albert B. of Lincoln, NE, Mrs. Delbert Watkins of Waterville, CT and Mrs. K. W. Gillespie of Lincoln, NE. One sister, Mrs. Jennie Hebb, of Lincoln, and nine granchildren also survive him.^2,4
     Albert Irvine Covey was also known as Albert Ervine Covey. He appeared on the census of 15 June 1870 at Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont; Albert Covey was 25 and a carpenter, living in the household of Asa Reynolds.⁵ Family records indicate that Albert was a building contractor. He and Isabel had two little girls who died in infancy at Malone, NY.⁴ He appeared on the census of 20 June 1900 at 4 Edward Street, Malone, Franklin Co, New York; Albert Covey, 55? (Nov 1844), and wife Isabella 52 (Apr 1848), b. Can, married 28 yrs, 10 children, 5 living; Irving H., 24 (Sep 1875), Cora E., 23 (Apr 1877), Jennie M. Gillespie, dau, 21 (Jul 1878), John Covey, 18 (Aug 1881), Bertie, 15 (Dec 1884) and son-in-law King W. Gillespie 23 (Aug 1876), b. NY. King and Jennie Gillespie had been married one year, had one child previously, but none living.⁶ He appeared on the census of 19 April 1910 at Lincoln, Lancaster Co, Nebraska; Albert, 63 and wife Isabella, 61 living several households away from son Bertie.⁷ He appeared on the census of 6 January 1920 at Lincoln, Lancaster Co, Nebraska; Albert I. Covey, 74, was living in the household of his son-in-law, King Gillespie and their family.⁸
