John Longeway

     John Longeway was born on 7 August 1824 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.¹ He was the son of Augustus Longeway and Nancy Covey. John Longeway was baptized on 24 April 1825 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.¹ He married Anna S. Maginnis before 1853.² John Longeway died on 14 December 1895 at Chicopee, Hampden Co, Massachusetts, at age 71;      The newspaper states John Longeway was a well known contractor and mason in Chicopee Falls. His daughter had been warming his feet as they prepared for a trip to Springfield. She left the room briefly and when she came back he did not respond. The cause of death was attributed to heart disease, that he had been suffering from since a bout with the grip[sic] some years before.
     He left four sons, Alfred and Edward, of the Falls, John of Holyoke and James of Minneapolis, as well as two daughters, Mis Louise, a trained nurse in New York City and Mrs. H.F. Heath of the Falls.^3,4 He was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Chicopee, Hampden Co, Massachusetts.⁵
     He appeared on the census of 25 June 1870 at Derby, Orleans Co, Vermont; John Longway, 45, brickmason, Ann, 41, both b. Canada, John, 17, Luiza, 12, both b. NY, and Edward H., 7, b. VT.² He appeared on the census of 12 June 1880 at Chicopee, Hampden Co, Massachusetts; John Longeway, 53, brickmason, b. Canada, S. Anna, 49, b. England, Loisa, 21 b. NY, Edmund, 17, b. VT, as well as five boarders.⁶
