William Longeway was born on 25 October 1852 at Sutton Flats, Brome Co, Quebec.1 He was the son of James Covey Longeway and Isabella Park Hurst. William Longeway married Edla Aretta Cole on 29 March 1875 at Derby Center, Orleans Co, Vermont; Vital records indicate the marriage took place the 29th, but the newspaer says the 30th.2,3 William Longeway died on 3 June 1927 at Gary, Lake Co, Indiana, at age 74.1 He was buried after 3 June 1927 at Beebe, Stanstead Co, Quebec.1
He appeared on the census of 1881 at Stanstead, Stanstead Co, Quebec; William Longeway, 28, born Quebec, stone mason, and wife Ella, 32, born USA, along with daughter Flora, 5, born Quebec. William was Church of England, but Ella and Flora were Congregationalists.4 According to Bea Nelson (gr-granddaughter), William went out west, and when he died, his wife went out and brought him back for burial in Quebec.
When he had lived in West Charleston, Vermont, he had been a blacksmith.1
