Frederick Patterson was born circa 1793 at Vermont. He was the son of Danforth Patterson and Chloe Smith. Frederick Patterson married Nancy May circa 1816. Frederick Patterson died on 11 January 1870 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.1 He was buried on 14 January 1870.1
He witnessed the burial of Chloe Smith on 7 April 1836 at Missisquoi Co, Quebec; It is likely that Chloe was also buried in the Anglican cemetery, but there was no stone ever transcribed.2 Frederick Patterson appeared on the census of 1861 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec; Frederick Patterson, 68, Nancy, 68, John N. Conaly, 16, Jane Conaly, 16, twins. They were all members of the Church of England.
Apparently, Matilda's twins by George Owen Connolly were living with her parents in 1861, while she and her husband Timothy Thompson were living in Williston, Vermont. It is likely that within a few years they started going by the name Patterson.3
