Stephen Salls

     Stephen Salls was born on 14 June 1812 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.¹ He was the son of Daniel Salls and Elizabeth Danford. Stephen Salls was baptized on 11 February 1826 at Caldwell's Manor, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.² He married Sophia E. Graves on 27 February 1840 at Sudbury, Rutland Co, Vermont. Stephen Salls married Adaline M. (?) circa 1848. Stephen Salls died on 23 May 1894 at Brandon, Rutland Co, Vermont, at age 81; "Stephen Salls, for many years postmaster at Forestdale, died at his home there last week" - Middlebury Register, 1 Jun 1894, page 5.³
     Stephen Salls served in the Vermont House of Representatives from Goshen, Vermont. He appeared on the census of 7 June 1860 at Goshen, Addison Co, Vermont; Stephen Salls, 44, b. Canada, Adeline M., 44, b. VT, along with two others this writer can not read in the scan uploaded to HeritageQuest.⁴ He appeared on the census of 1 July 1870 at Brandon, Rutland Co, Vermont; Stephen Salls, 58, b. VT, Adeline M., 54, b. VT and Sally Belknap, 86, retired, b. NH. Sally may have been Adeline's mother, but at this point, the writer has no indication as to Adeline's maiden name.⁵
