William Charles Wood

     William Charles Wood was born on 2 September 1823 at Cornwallis, Kings Co, Nova Scotia; Richard Wood McGurin had his birth date as 2 Sep 1823 at Cornwallis. While it is likely, there is no source. We knew from other records it was ca 1822, and they were still in Cornwallis up to about 1825.¹ He was the son of William D. Wood and Olivia Hovey Williams. William Charles Wood married Susan Ann Cole, daughter of Levi Cole and Susan (?), on 21 June 1848 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; The marriage announcement lists Susan as the second daughter of the late James Cole.² William Charles Wood married Esther MacDonald, daughter of George E. MacDonald and Mary Ann Rodgers, on 21 March 1893 at F.C. Baptist Church, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.
     William Charles Wood appeared on the census of 1851 at Simonds Parish, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Charles W. Wood, 29, b. Nova Scotia, farmer, entered the colony in 1826; wife Susan, 26, b. Nova Scotia, entered in 1836.³ He and Susan Ann Cole appeared on the census of 16 July 1870 at Brighton, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; William Wood, 44, carpenter, b. Nova Scotia, Susan A., 41, b. Nova Scotia, and Francis A., 8, b. Nova Scotia. Also in the household was the family of John H. Lynch, 46, carpenter, also b. Nova Scotia. His wife Jane, b. England and five children, all born Massachusetts.⁴ William Charles Wood and Susan Ann Cole appeared on the census of 12 June 1880 at Stoneham, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; William C. Wood, 54, laborer, b. Nova Scotia, mother and father both b. Nova Scotia; Susan A., 51, b. Nova Scotia, as were her parents; Francis A., 17, cutlery, b. New Brunswick, and Etta G.F., 4, adopted daughter, b. Massachusetts.⁵ William Charles Wood was also known as Charles William Wood.
