Alexander Brown was born on 25 December 1831 at Fairfield, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; His declaration of intention for naturalization says he was a carpenter and that he arrived in Boston 1 Nov 1879. I am not sure about this since Alexander did appear in the 1881 census in Saint John.2,3 He was the son of James Brown and Mary Cunningham.1 Alexander Brown married Charlotte Catherine Howard, daughter of John Howard Jr and Rachel Campbell Kerr, on 19 January 1854.4 Alexander Brown died on 23 May 1906 at Boston City Hospital, Boston, Suffolk Co, Massachusetts, at age 74; His residence was Boston and was admitted to City Hospital on May 21st.1 He was buried at Fairfield, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.1
He appeared on the census of 1871 at Prince Ward, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Alexander Brown, 40, Charlote, 40, Mary, 16, Ratchel, 15, Harvey, 14, Milton, 12, Alexander, 11, Fanny, 11, Charlote, 7, and Stephen, 5. Alexander was a housejoiner, and the family was Baptist, all born New Brunswick.5 He appeared on the census of 1881 at Portland, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Alexander Brown, 49, C.K., 50, Alexander M. 21, Fanny A., 19, Lottie E., 16, Stephen H., 15, and Harry A., 9. All were Presbyterian with the exception of Charlotte, who was Brethren.6 He appeared on the census of 9 June 1900 at Boston Ward 21, Suffolk Co, Massachusetts; Charlotte Brown, 69, Alexander Brown, 68, both boarders, were living in the house of Isabel Currie. They had been married 43 years and she had nine children, all living. The record indicates she entered the US in 1884 at 16, and he in 1881 at 19. Alexander's mother had been born in Scotland. His father and Charlotte's were born New Brunswick. A pity they can't be seen in the 1890 census, but that's the issue, with everyone then.7
