     Nathan Smith was born in 1737 at Stamford, Fairfield Co, Connecticut. He married Elizabeth Betts in 1761 at Stamford, Fairfield Co, Connecticut. Nathan Smith died on 23 December 1818 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; "d. This morn., 23rd, age 81, Nathan Smith, Esq., half pay, Surgeon, H.M. Regt. Employed in American Revolutionary War. Came with other Loyalists, ever since resided in this city."1
