Martha Hammond was born in 1783 at St Andrews, Charlotte Co, New Brunswick; Martha was listed as the first white child born in St Andrews.1,2 She was the daughter of Zebedee Hammond and Martha Bennett. Martha Hammond married Jabesh Caleb Squires in 1798.1 Martha Hammond died on 10 December 1857 at Carleton Co, New Brunswick; Martha died at her residence in Kent parish, aged 74.1,3 She was buried at Upper Kent Cemetery, Carleton Co, New Brunswick.4
She and Jabesh Caleb Squires appeared on the census of 1851 at Kent, Carleton Co, New Brunswick; Jabish Squires, 76, arriving New Brunswick 1783, infirm; Martha, 68, b. NB, also infirm; daughter Julia Squires, 31 and granddaughter Harriet Cox, 8.5
