Jared Hepburn

     Jared Hepburn was born on 14 December 1813 at Saint John Co, New Brunswick.^1,2 He was the son of Alexander Hepburn and Mabel Belding. Jared Hepburn married Julia Thomas on 19 April 1845 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; "m. in this city Saturday Eve. by Rev. George Millar...both of Lancaster parish."³ Jared Hepburn married Ann Jane Seabury on 20 February 1851; by Rev. A. Stewart.^4,5 A bond for the marriage of Jared Hepburn and Catherine Patience Hoyt was signed in 1862 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.⁶ Jared Hepburn married Catherine Patience Hoyt, daughter of Dennis Hoyt and Elizabeth McNichol, on 26 November 1862 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick. Jared Hepburn was buried at Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire, Eau Claire Co, Wisconsin.¹ He died on 16 June 1913 at Cleveland, Cuyuga Co, Ohio, at age 99; He had been residing with a son. An obituary, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, told:
Jared Hepburn, a former resident of this city, died on Monday in Cleveland, Ohio, in the hundredth year of his age. Despite his great age, Mr. Hepburn had enjoyed the full uses of all his faculties and was in exceleent health until recently. He was born in Saint John on December 14, 1814, and resided here for many years.
When he lived in Saskatachewan, I have not learned as yet.^7,1
     The 1865-1866 Saint John directory, Jared Hepburn is listed as residing at "Union n Charlotte", and he was a Block and Pump Maker.
In 1880, Jared Hepburn and family lived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. His sons Jared Jr., William and Alexander were present at that time. He appeared on the census of 25 June 1880 at Eau Claire, Eau Claire Co, Wisconsin; Jerrid Hebrin, 49, Kate, 39, Jerrid Jr, 16, William, 10, Alexander, 6 and Mable, 2. Both Alexander and Mable were b. Wisconsin. Everyone else was born New Brunswick.⁸ He appeared on the census of 6 June 1900 at Eau Claire, Eau Claire Co, Wisconsin; Jared Hepburn, 86, along with his children, Mabel L., 21, Grace D., 18, and a servant, Jessie Parker, 22. Jared's father was born Scotland and his mother was born "Roadisland."⁹
