James Hix Wait

     James Hix Wait was born on 3 May 1827 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec. He was the son of Enoch Wait and Sarah Salls. James Hix Wait was baptized on 8 February 1841 at Lingwick Anglican Church, Lingwick, Compton Co, Quebec. He married Sarah Mary Keenan, daughter of John Keenan and Mary Harrison, on 12 November 1860 at Lingwick Anglican Churc, Lingwick, Compton Co, Quebec.¹ James Hix Wait died on 24 June 1908 at Compton Co, Quebec, at age 81.² He was buried at Cookshire Cemetery, Cookshire, Compton Co, Quebec.²
     He appeared on the census of 1881 at Stanstead, Stanstead Co, Quebec; James Wait, 53, Sarah, 44, along with James, 19 and Francis, 16. They belonged to the Church of England.³ He appeared on the census of 1901 at Stanstead, Stanstead Co, Quebec; The census reads that James H. Waite was born 10 Aug 1823, was aged 77, and living with son Frank J., 38, b. 21 Mar 1863 which does not coincide with birth records for John Francis Wait. But the fact that they were living with James Wait, son of Enoch and Emily Wait points to the fact that it must be the same family. James' father-in-law, Aber Jewell, was also present, next door.
