John Longeway was born on 15 May 1805 at Missisquoi Co, Quebec.1 He was the son of Remie Longeway and Marie Geneviève Raimond. John Longeway was baptized on 4 March 1809 at Christie's Manor, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.1 He married Phoebe Almira Wait, daughter of Briggs Wait and Mary Sheer/Shier, on 8 February 1832 at St Armand, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.2 John Longeway died in 1885 at Sutton, Brome Co, Quebec.3 He was buried at Fairmount Cemetery, Sutton, Brome Co, Quebec.4
He witnessed the burial of Marie Geneviève Raimond on 3 September 1846 at St George's Anglican Cemetery, Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec; The gravestone is engraved that she was aged 100 years. The 1861 census indicates that John Longeway and his wife Almira were residents of Sutton, Brome County, Quebec, and were living with their son Augustus and wife Lois. Other members of John's immediate family included Agnes, Julie and Annette/Henrietta. John Longeway and Phoebe Almira Wait appeared on the census of 1881 at Sutton, Brome Co, Quebec, and were listed as Methodist.5
