Charles Thomas was born on 23 April 1746 at New Haven, New Haven Co, Connecticut.¹ He was the son of Charles Thomas and Lydia Auger.¹ Charles Thomas married Sarah (?)¹ Charles Thomas married Huldah Smith on 27 September 1799 at Digby Co, Nova Scotia.^2,3 Charles Thomas died on 2 December 1818 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick, at age 72; Charles Thomas, age 75, American exile, assisted in first settlement of this place.^4,5 He was buried at Loyalist Cemetery, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.⁴
Charles Thomas was driven from his house in Connecticut and reached British lines where the Army employed him as a pilot on Her Majesty's ships. He was commissioned as Capt of a Volunteer Company of Loyalists which manned the armed sloop until the end of the war. He came with his wife, Sarah, and six children to New Brunswick where they live in the wilderness without allowances. Petition was dated 10 Nov 1789 at Saint John. He claimed a house and six acres, as well as three months' service on the HMS Swan and other vessels (as his brother Thomas did).⁶
