William Alexander Mott

     William Alexander Mott was born on 9 February 1856 at New York.¹ He was the son of Moses Mott and Martha Creighton. William Alexander Mott married Margaret Lavinia Salls, daughter of Merritt Alonzo Salls and Lydia Maria Young, on 24 February 1881 at Fort Covington, Franklin Co, New York.^2,1 William Alexander Mott died on 2 May 1882 at Plattsburgh, Clinton Co, New York, at age 26; This writer's grandmother, Mildred E. Scott Dean) wrote that he was killed after being thrown from a horse. However, newpapers print that he died of consumption, which is more in line with the fact he was alert enough to write a Will on March 1st, two months before he died. Consumption was most likely the cause.³ His estate was probated on 26 June 1882 at Plattsburgh, Clinton Co, New York.⁴ He was buried at Union Cemetery, Morrisonville, Clinton Co, New York.⁵
     He left a will on 1 March 1882 at Plattsburgh, Clinton Co, New York; In his Will, William mentions he was aged 26 years. After his debts were paid, he wished all personal property to his wife "absolutely and forever". Also says all real estate to his wife "during the time of her natural life.My wife is now with child by me, and from and after the death of said wife I give and bequeth all my said real estate to me heir..."⁴
