Lydia Maria Young
     Lydia Maria Young was born on 27 April 1838 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.1 She was the daughter of John Young Jr. and Emerline Patterson. Lydia Maria Young was baptized on 10 August 1838 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.2 She married Merritt Alonzo Salls, son of Isaac Salls Jr. and Mary Melissa Derick, on 24 February 1858 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.3 Lydia Maria Young died on 1 October 1907 at Clinton, Worcester Co, Massachusetts, at age 69.4 She was buried on 3 October 1907 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.5
     She and Merritt Alonzo Salls appeared on the census of 23 June 1870 at Fort Covington, Franklin Co, New York; Merritt Salls, 30, Lydia 32, Ella 10, Francis 8, Margarette 6, Judson 4, Hubbard 2, and Lydia 3/12. All were born Canada except Hubbard and Lydia which was written as New York.6 Lydia Maria Young and Merritt Alonzo Salls appeared on the census of 11 June 1880 at Fort Covington, Franklin Co, New York;      "Emmett Sauls", 41, farm laborer, both mo and fa born Canada; wife Lydia M., 42; Margaret, 17; Judson, 15; Haerbert, 12; Elizabeth, 10; John, 8; Lilian, 5; and Claud 1. Merritt, Lydia, Margaret and Judson were born Canada; the rest of the children were born in New York.7 Lydia Maria Young left a will on 9 February 1907 at Worcester Co, Massachusetts;      Lydia left $25 to each of her daughters, Ella E. Hall of Auburn, New Hampshire, Margaret L. Scott of Clinton, Frances M. Bagster of Clinton, Elizabeth Amsden of Providence, Rhode Island, and Lillian M. Stuart of Lynn. To her son John of Clinton, she left $200 and son Judson, $50. Son Herbert was to be given use of the store and stable at 492 High Street, Clinton, without rent for as long as he continued the business. When he left, he was to receive $100. Son Claude was to receive for his use or disposal, the home and land at 492 High Street, extending to West Street as well as any effects left in the home. Claude was to be executor of the Will and make payments to the heirs within one year of her decease.8
