Martha L. Gale

     Martha L. Gale was born on 3 March 1853 at New York.^2,3 She was the daughter of Benjamin Gale and Sarah Cass. Martha L. Gale married William Emmet Tryon, son of William Tryon Jr. and Lucinda Slosson, circa 1875. Martha L. Gale died after 13 August 1935 at Essex Co, New York; Bert Tryon's obituary mentions she survives him.^4,5
     "In my memory Martha, my grandmother, worked in Keene Valley as a domestic, first for Miss or Mrs. Waterbury, a summer resident who owned or leased the building where Polly Jacques now resides [1998]. At a later time, my grandmother, for years kept house in Keene Valley, for Mr and Mrs Byron Estes." - Adrian Edmonds.⁶ She appeared on the census of 16 April 1910 at Keene, Essex Co, New York; Martha L. Tryon, 57, was living with her son-in-law, Clarence Edmonds, her daughter, Beatrice and their son, Adrian.¹ She appeared on the census of 21 April 1930 at Market Street, Keene, Essex Co, New York; Martha Tryon, 77, was living with her son-in-law Clarence Edmonds, daughter Bea and family.⁴
