Oliver Flagg Salls

     Oliver Flagg Salls was born on 1 January 1834 at Farnham, Missisquoi Co, Quebec; The death certificate for his stillborn daughter in 1866 says he was born in Clarenceville.¹ He was the son of Henry Salls and Lydia Branch. Oliver Flagg Salls married Caroline S. Whitney, daughter of Francis M. Whitney and Catherine Birch, on 5 October 1865 at Phillipston, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.² Oliver Flagg Salls died on 3 October 1921 at Phillipston, Worcester Co, Massachusetts, at age 87; His record shows he was son of Henry Salls, b. MA and Lydia Branch, b. VT. Oliver died of acute bronchitis.³ He was buried at Centre Cemetery, Phillipston, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.
     He appeared on the census of 25 July 1850 at Bridport, Addison Co, Vermont; Oliver Salls, aged 15, was living with Thomas Pratt and his wife Mary Ann, who was the daughter of Isaac Salls and Rachel Spear.⁴ He appeared on the census of 30 June 1860 at Moriah, Essex Co, New York; Oliver Searles, 25, laborer, living with the family of John Kelley.⁵ He appeared on the census of 23 June 1870 at Westport, Essex Co, New York; Oliver was enumerated as aged 30, living with his mother, Lydia Salls.⁶ He appeared on the census of 1880 at Phillipston, Worcester Co, Massachusetts; Oliver Salls was aged 43 [b. 1837], born Canada, along with his wife Caroline, then aged 36, born Massachusetts. Oliver was working in a chair shop.⁷ He appeared on the census of 25 April 1910 at Saratoga, Saratoga Co, New York; Oliver Flagg Salls, 76, widower, was living with his nephew, William H. Salls, his wife and family. He was listed as uncle.⁸
