Alonzo Derick was born on 6 June 1817 at Christie's Manor, Missisquoi Co, Quebec. He was the son of William Derick and Melinda Hurlbut. Alonzo Derick was baptized on 3 May 1818 at Caldwell's Manor, Missisquoi Co, Quebec; Caldwell's Manor & Christie's Manor Anglican Church. He married Elizabeth Cannon on 7 August 1844 at St George's Anglican Church, Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec; Henry Derick, his cousin and Sarah Aller were witnesses.1 Alonzo Derick married Charlotte Ellis on 11 March 1865 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec; Clarenceville Anglican Church. Alonzo Derick died on 7 October 1890 at age 73.2 He was buried at Union Cemetery, Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.3
William Derick and his wife, Melinda "Hulbert" had a Deed of Donation to their son, Alonzo on 10 Nov 1840. Alonzo had been living with them on Lot #11 in the 4th Range or Concession of Noyan. The parents gave Alonzo the land and house, except for a bit of land with a blacksmith shop on it, reserved for William's use until his death. There were farm animals, wagons and ploughs were listed individually as part of the Gift. This was done with stipulation that Alonzo provide his parents "with good and sufficient board, meat, [and] drink". He was to take care of mending, should his mother be unable to do it, and furnish a carriage and horse for their use.
Alonzo was to also care for his sister, Elizabeth, until she might marry, as well as adopted child, Emma Avilia, now for years old. He was to make sure she received schooling. It would be interesting to learn how Emma fit in to the family.4 He witnessed the marriage of John Keet and Elizabeth Derick on 12 March 1843.1
