William Judson Wood was born on 15 April 1862 at Gardner's Creek, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.1 He was the son of Joseph Williams Wood and Elizabeth Brown Howard. William Judson Wood married Eveline Daley, daughter of Joseph Daley and Mary Hepburn, on 11 May 1881 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick. William Judson Wood died on 22 November 1941 at Saint John General Hospital, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick, at age 79; William was a retired, and hadn't worked since 1933. He had worked at his occupation for 50 1/2 years. His death had been the result of a housefire on 17 Nov 1941. He had been removed while unconscious and had minor burns about his face and hands. The immediate cause of death was given as hypostatic pneumonia due to suffication by smoke. Son Carey was the informant.2,3 He was buried on 24 November 1941 at Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; The funeral home record [as well as the death certificate] shows his place of birth as Fairfield, NB, as well as that of his parents.3
William Judson and wife Eveline Daley Wood joined the Tabernacle United Baptist Church on 26 November 1899. On 13 November 1924 the family transferred membership to the Edith Avenue United Baptist Church in East Saint John becoming two of the original 38 charter members of that church.4 William Judson Wood appeared on the census of 1901 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Enumerated under the name of Woods, William J., 39, an axemaker, Eveline J., 39, Whitfield, 21, Bessie E., 19, Joseph P. 18, Stanley F., 14, Lillie B., 11, William L., 9, Carey S., 4, along with Joseph, 74 and Elizabeth, 74, erroneously listed as father and mother "in law". The family was Baptist.5 I included this photo - it was taken about circa 1905.
William Judson Wood lived in September 1910 at Oak Bay, Charlotte Co, New Brunswick; While the obituary for Joseph Wm. Wood mentions Oakland, Ethel Kirkpatrick of Saint John, in a letter dated 12 Feb 1987, felt strongly it should have been written Oak Bay.6
William Judson Wood and Eveline Daley appeared on the census of 1911 at 82 Broad Street, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; William Wood, 49, Evelyn, 49, Carey, 14, Violet, 5.William was a toolmaker and the family was Baptist. Living in the same household was Harris Davidson and his family.7 William Judson Wood appeared on the census of 1921 at Red Head Road, East Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; William J. Wood, 59, Evelyn, 59, and Violet, 16. William was listed as English and Evelyn as Scotch. They were Baptist, and were renting the house.8 He lived in 1923 at Alma Avenue, East Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; William Judson was listed in the city directory as being a laborer.9 He appeared on the census of 1931 at 38 Alma Street, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; William J. Wood, and wife Evelyn, both 69 years old. This time, background was switched from 1921. William was listed Scotch and Evelyn as English. William was a blacksmith, working for the Highway Board. He had earned $195, and was unemployed for 34 weeks. They were enumerated next to son, Carey, at 37 Alma Street.10
